Hundreds of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will distribute about 300,000 bags on Saturday in their annual “Scouting for Food Drive” for the needy. Scouts will drop off the large tan and green bags at homes from Studio City to Lancaster to Westlake and then return on Feb. 8 to pick them up. Last year, Scouts from The Los Colinas District collected more than 8,000 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable items from residents and donated the food to area food banks, a spokesman for the district said. Free income tax assistance will be offered at the Burbank Joslyn Adult Center, 1301 W. Olive Ave, beginning Saturday. The service is available to senior citizens, low-income, disabled and non-English speaking citizens on Wednesdays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through April 8. The service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis by trained volunteers from Cal State Northridge. Free tax assistance for senior citizens will be offered at the East Valley Multipurpose Center for Seniors, 5000 Colfax Ave., North Hollywood. Income for an individual or couple must not exceed $35,000. Call (818) 766-5165.

The Valley Senior Service & Resource Center, 18255 Victory Blvd., Reseda, is offering a 10-week educational support group for people who are the main care-givers for a dependent senior citizen. The group will address problems of stress for the care-giver, legal issues such as durable power of attorney and medical concerns.
