Incoming flights at San Francisco International Airport were delayed 1 1/2 hours Friday as fog cut visibility to less than two miles.

The Federal Aviation Administration told airports throughout the nation to delay the flights until new landing times could be arranged, said airport spokesman David Wilson.

About 33 planes an hour were being allowed to land, compared to twice that many in good weather and 106 during peak times.

Planes were being allowed to take off, but because most outgoing flights start elsewhere, people flying out of San Francisco also were being delayed, Wilson said.
