Outfielder Shawn Abner reached agreement with the Angels on a one-year contract for $287,500 plus bonuses, averting an arbitration hearing. Abner, who earned $180,000 last season, hit .228 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 41 games after being acquired from the Padres July 30 for third baseman Jack Howell. He had filed for arbitration at $325,000, compared with the Angels’ figure of $250,000.

The Angels still face arbitration hearings with outfielders Luis Polonia and Junior Felix and reliever Mark Eichhorn.

The Angels announced the 11 players who have been invited to spring training on a non-roster basis, including eight with major league experience: right-handed pitchers Chris Beasley, Bert Blyleven, Willie Fraser and Matt Keough, left-handers Joe Kraemer and Pat Perry, infielder Rene Gonzales and outfielder Jose Gonzalez. The other three invited were infielder Damion Easley and catchers Mick Billmeyer and Larry Gonzales.
