Leaders of Sweden’s estimated 900,000 immigrants urged them Saturday to stage a token strike Feb. 21 to draw attention to a spate of racially motivated gun attacks.

Unidentified gunmen, suspected by police to be right-wing extremists, have shot six immigrants in Stockholm and Uppsala. One of the victims was still critically ill in a Stockholm hospital Saturday.

Immigrant leaders said the one-hour strike sought to draw attention to the latest attacks and show the economic importance of the estimated 10% of Sweden’s 8.6 million population not born in the country.
