MORE PAIN: One person concerned by police “pain compliance” techniques is Assemblyman Gil Ferguson (R-Newport Beach), above. Ferguson was so upset by methods police used to arrest anti-abortion protesters that he unsuccessfully tried to bar some techniques and weapons such as nunchakus. . . . “It’s a good bill and Gil’s fervent about it,” says an aide, promising that Ferguson will reintroduce the measure as soon as Assembly rules allow: next year.
