Youth Shot 9 Times in Gunfight With Police
A youth who was shot nine times in a gun battle with Pomona police after a $100 convenience store robbery was reported in serious, but improving, condition Tuesday.
Authorities said a passerby saw a robbery under way at a 7-Eleven store on Grand Avenue in Pomona just before 3 a.m. Monday and notified a police officer who was parked a mile away. Four police officers arrived as the alleged robber was leaving.
Armed with a .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun, the robber fired two shots and the officers returned 31, according to Deputy Mary Landreth of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was called by police to investigate. Nine bullets hit the youth. The officers were uninjured.
Authorities declined to identify the youth.
His condition, listed as critical on Monday, is reported to have improved.
