Controversial Benetton Ad to Run: A provocative print ad by Italian clothing giant Benetton, featuring an AIDS patient in agony near the moment of his death, will run in several publications next week despite protests from some gay and religious organizations. Benetton said the ad will appear in the United States on Feb. 13. It caused an uproar in Britain when it appeared in publications there last month. The ad features a graphic photograph of an emaciated AIDS sufferer, on his death bed, surrounded by his family. Beneath the photo is the slogan “United Colors of Benetton.” Among publications planning to run the ad is Elle. “We have no problem running this ad whatsoever,” said publisher Gail Stone.
