La Mirada : New Name for Firestone Boulevard’s North Lanes
La Mirada has decided to change the name of the north lanes of Firestone Boulevard between Valley View and Knott avenues to Gateway Center Drive.
City Manager Gary Sloan said the change was approved by the City Council to end confusion between the north and south Firestone roadways, which are bisected by the Santa Ana Freeway. “One has odd and one has even numbers, and people get on the wrong side of the freeway when looking for an address,” he said. The south roadway is not affected.
Sloan said the idea of the name change arose at a city workshop a year ago when police said confusion over addresses could lead to delays in responding to emergencies. Both the Chamber of Commerce and the city Public Safety Commission supported the change.
The name change, which covers a stretch of road near the Gateway Plaza hotel, office and restaurant development, will not take effect for a year so that businesses in the area may adjust to the change and use up their supplies of letterhead stationery and business cards with the Firestone name.
