SPANISH BEE: The word nervous won’t come up at tonight’s Anaheim Elementary Education Assn. spelling bee, but try nervioso . It’s the county’s first districtwide spelling bee in Spanish. While competition is under way for the traditional annual spelling bees (B1), 12 native Spanish-speaking children in Anaheim will compete in a special contest, where first prize is $25 and a plaque. . . . “We think this is good for the self-esteem of these children to have a spelling bee of their own,” says Frances Falt, who organized it. But her dream, she says, is to have one student win both spelling bees: English and Spanish.
