Malibu : Laborer Hiring Site Picked

Share

The City Council has moved a step closer to setting up a hiring center for day laborers, directing its staff to explore opening a facility, at least temporarily, in the civic center.

A task force appointed by the council had selected Zuma Beach as its top choice for the center, but the council said that it could not gain county approval to use the site. The civic center location was the group’s second choice.

By a unanimous vote, the council directed the staff to draw up a law that would essentially provide for a six-month experiment with the center. The council also urged the staff to explore ways to fund the hiring site without the city having to pay for it.
