Countywide : Food Outlets Closed by Health Inspectors

Share

County inspectors closed five restaurants and retail food outlets last month for various health code violations, the county Environmental Health Department reported.

Sandy’s Steaks and Seafood on Saviers Road in Oxnard was closed Jan. 30 because of a sewage backup in one of its restrooms. The restaurant reopened the following day after a sewer main was repaired and its restrooms sanitized, said Elizabeth Huff, supervisor of restaurant and food facilities inspection.

Two retail outlets in Oxnard were closed indefinitely after inspectors found they lacked the required county health permits, Huff said.

The Pioneer French Bakery, a wholesale bakery on Statham Boulevard, had opened a retail shop in the front of its building without acquiring necessary permits, Huff said. The retail operations were closed down Jan. 29.

Huff said The $1 Store on Saviers Road similarly failed to obtain a health permit for its food stand. The county ordered the store’s owner to stop selling food on Jan. 17 until a permit was obtained and a janitorial mop sink and hot and cold water were installed in the serving area and bathrooms.

The Tradewinds Market on North Ventura Road in Port Hueneme was closed on Jan. 14 because its water supply was temporarily interrupted, Huff said. It reopened two days later when water was restored.

A snack shop in the County Government Center’s administration building was also closed for about four hours on Jan. 7 because of an interruption in water service, Huff said.
