Isiah Thomas scored 38 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers made only one shot in an eight-point second quarter as the Detroit Pistons won, 112-95, Thursday night at Richfield, Ohio.

“They were just missing shots,” Thomas said. “We played good defense, but they had some shots they normally knock down and they just missed them.”

Joe Dumars added 27 points and Dennis Rodman grabbed 26 rebounds, eight above his NBA-leading average, to help the Pistons win their fourth consecutive game.

The Cavaliers brought a four-game win streak into the game and had beaten the Pistons five times in a row. But after taking a 29-21 first-quarter lead, Cleveland missed its first 18 shots in the second period before Mark Price finally sank a 20-footer with 32 seconds left.

The Cavaliers, unable to get the ball inside consistently and to make a basket from anywhere on the floor, went one for 20 and were outscored, 29-8, in the quarter, giving Detroit a 50-37 halftime lead.

Charlotte 132, Golden State 113--Kendall Gill, who collapsed from a migraine headache at a shootaround earlier in the day, made his first six shots and finished with 27 points to lead the Hornets at Charlotte.

Gill, in his second year out of Illinois, was hospitalized until two hours before tip-off but showed no ill-effects during the game.

“I didn’t know what happened,” Gill said. “I thought maybe I was in a car accident.”

Charlotte broke the game open early, getting 13 first-quarter points from Gill. The Hornets led, 44-29, after one quarter and 74-53 at halftime.

Indiana 117, San Antonio 106--Reggie Miller scored 28 points and Chuck Person added 24 at San Antonio to help the Pacers end the Spurs’ five-game winning streak.

The Spurs are 6-2 since Bob Bass took over Jan. 21 for fired coach Larry Brown.

The Spurs’ David Robinson was held to a season-low 13 points.

Portland 103, Dallas 98--Clyde Drexler scored 11 of his 32 points in the final three minutes as the Trail Blazers held off the Mavericks at Dallas.

The victory was Portland’s seventh in eight games and the loss the eighth in a row and 19th in 20 games for Dallas.

Atlanta 123, Orlando 112--If the Hawks are going to win without Dominque Wilkins, Kevin Willis is going to have to come through, and that’s what he did in this game at Atlanta, scoring a season-high 32 points and grabbing 21 rebounds.

The victory was Atlanta’s second in five games since losing Wilkins for the season on Jan. 28.

Rookie Stanley Roberts had a personal-best 24 points for Orlando, one more than he scored Wednesday night as the Magic won at Minnesota and ended a five-game losing streak. Nick Anderson also had 24 points for the Magic.

New York 102, Houston 85--Patrick Ewing outplayed Hakeem Olajuwon inside, and Mark Jackson had a career-high 19 assists to lead the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Milwaukee 106, Denver 97--Dale Ellis had 12 fourth-quarter points and Larry Krystkowiak had 10 as the Bucks won at Milwaukee.
