OLYMPIC LEAGUE ROUNDUP : Orange Lutheran Hits 100 Against Whittier Christian

Orange Lutheran reached the century mark with two seconds left in the game and retained its hold on second place in the Olympic League with a 100-84 victory over Whittier Christian Friday night at Orange Lutheran.

The Lancers (12-10, 7-2 in league) kept the lid on the Herald offense, playing aggressive, double-teaming defense.

Whittier Christian didn’t help itself by committing numerous turnovers in the first quarter to trail, 24-16.

Orange Lutheran led by 11 at the half, 48-37, and went on an eight-point run in the middle of the third quarter to take an 18-point lead.

Whittier Christian (10-11, 4-6) was led by Mark Berokoff with 32 points, 15 in the fourth quarter. The Herald forward hit three three-pointers, a field goal and four free throws in the final quarter. Berokoff, who averages 22.2 points a game, was perfect at the line, going eight for eight.

Five Orange Lutheran players scored in double figures, led by forward Chad Mihr with 21.

Orange Lutheran guard Jeff Courvoisier (19 points) made two free throws with two seconds left to hit the 100 mark.

Although both teams had more than 20 fouls, only one player from each side fouled out. Orange Lutheran plays host to first-place Brethren Christian tonight.

In another league game:

Brethren Christian 60, Capistrano Valley Christian 37--Chiron Hart scored 16 points and Scott Thomas added 15 to lead Brethren Christian (10-0 in league). Matt Watts led.
