Second baseman Juan Samuel agreed to a one-year contract for $2.325 million with the Dodgers on Friday, avoiding arbitration.

Samuel batted .271 in 153 games last season, almost 30 points higher than he had batted the season before. He had 12 home runs and 58 runs batted in. He had asked for $2.75 million for 1992; the Dodgers had offered $1.9 million.

He made $1,575,000 in 1991 and became a free agent after the season, then decided to go to arbitration Dec. 19.

Samuel, 31, was batting .313 at the All-Star break and was selected to the All-Star team for the third time.

Outfielder Kal Daniels, who is expected to be given a chance to win the first-base job this spring, is the last Dodger in arbitration.
