Azusa : City Joins Light-Rail Study
Reversing its stand against helping to pay for a multi-city transportation study, the City Council has agreed to contribute $6,000, or half its allotted share.
The council approved the expenditure with little discussion after twice defeating it during previous meetings.
Council members had said they didn’t think it would benefit the city enough to justify the cost.
The $250,000 study, to be conducted by a consultant hired by six cities, will analyze engineering, planning and environmental issues associated with the planned Pasadena-to-Los Angeles light-rail project, which is expected to extend into Irwindale.
It will be presented to the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission in support of the area’s mass transit goals.
The Foothill Cities Transportation Task Force, a coalition of San Gabriel Valley cities, asked for the six cities affected by the line--Arcadia, Azusa, Duarte, Monrovia, Glendora and Irwindale--to pay $12,000 each for the study.
All of the cities, with the exception of Irwindale, have authorized funding for the study.
