GM, Ford Issue Recalls: General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. recalled more than 750,000 vehicles suspected of having defects. GM, the world’s biggest auto maker, said it is recalling 414,000 cars from the 1991 model year to inspect them for cracked shoulder-belt guide loops. The cars include the Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunbird, Buick Regal, Chevrolet Lumina, Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. GM said it believes that only 3% of the cars are defective. Meanwhile, Ford announced a recall of 350,000 1992-model light- and medium-duty F-Series trucks, Broncos and Rangers for modifications in door latches. Ford said that if water enters the door-latch release cable and freezes, the cable may become inoperative even though the door appears to be fully latched.
