Novadyne Computer Systems Inc., a computer service and repair company in Santa Ana, said Monday that it has reorganized its work force, expanding its sales and marketing staffs and laying off 25 employees in other departments.

The layoffs took place last month, when the company also announced a freeze on salary increases during 1992.

The company is reacting to the recession by shifting resources from engineering to sales and marketing. That has resulted in 11 hires in sales and marketing and layoffs in other departments, said President Bert Novak in a statement.

“We took a look at our company and decided that, to counter the effects of a weakened economy, Novadyne should operate as lean as possible,” Novak said. “We’re cautiously optimistic about 1992.”

Novak led an investment group that purchased Novadyne from McDonnell Douglas Corp. for $100 million in 1990. Since July, the company has reduced its work force from 947 to 880 mostly through attrition.
