CVS Stores Acquired: American Drug Stores Inc., operator of the Anaheim-based Sav-On drugstore chain, said Monday that it has completed the acquisition of all CVS drugstores in California. American bought 85 stores from the CVS division of the Melville Corp., based in Rye, N.Y. Terms were not disclosed. CVS stands for Consumer Value Stores.

American, itself a division of American Stores Inc., operates 221 Sav-On stores in California, Nevada and Arizona. It also has the Osco Drug chain, based in Oak Brook, Ill., with 259 drugstores and 225 stores that operate in conjunction with the Jewel Food Stores chain.
