Adultery and Candidates

Share

Let me get this straight. Susan Estrich (“The Savage Struggle for Power,” Opinion, Jan. 26) says adultery should not disqualify a person from running for President. Her assertion, as a political insider, that 90% of all candidates break their marriage vows has certainly confirmed my opinion of most politicians.

Her argument that consensual sex between adults is none of our business completely misses the point. Politicians are in the promise-making business, and their primary source of credibility is in how well they keep their promises.

Ms. Estrich suggests that someone who cannot keep a public vow to God and the woman he loves most in the world is somehow going to keep his promises to me.

I have only one question for Ms. Estrich. Do I look like a fool?
