The largest source for American regional cookbooks is Lyon House Distributors, which sells more than 180 titles, ranging from Junior League and church group collections to the recipes of Elvis Presley’s family, luncheonette cookery and “The Joys of Pressure Cooking.” Not surprisingly, about 60% of the books are from the South. Mallomars Barred?

In case you haven’t noticed, Mallomars, the chocolate-covered marshmallow confection, are not currently available on the West Coast. We have been unable to get anybody at Nabisco to say whether we will ever see them out here again. You might want to try your luck. Nabisco’s number is (800) 932-7800; ask for Barbara M. Where’s the New Food?

The food trade publication New Product News reports that 20% more new food products were introduced in 1991 than the year before--16,143 as against 13,244 in 1990, or about 44 new products a day. But NPW doesn’t say how many have already disappeared.
