A Ball for People of All Ages

Remember how romantic your prom was? The gym was all decorated and the lights were turned low. You and your date were all dressed up. And let’s not forget the crying your heart out in the restroom routine.

Whether you danced to Glenn Miller or Janet Jackson, all the romance of the prom, without the chaperons, can be yours at “Dancing Through the Decades” on Friday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Glendale. The event is sponsored by the church’s Thirty Plus or Minus Social Club to raise money for St. Mark’s Second Century Fund, which supports various church projects.

“We’ll have everything from swing music to completely contemporary,” said Elizabeth Price, co-chairwoman of the committee planning the ball. Disc jockey (and church member) Rob Simpson will spin the platters and Double Date, a doo-wop quartet that performs at Universal Studios, will perform from 9 to 10 p.m. They will be joined by Suzanne Korkis and Paul Dean Martin as Lucy and Desi. Korkis, a member of St. Mark’s, performs as Lucille Ball at Universal Studios.

Baby-sitting is available for $5 a child, but reservations are a must. You may also reserve a table for four or 10.

Tickets will be available at the door. Finger foods, such as vegetable trays and other goodies, are included in the donation of $5 per person.

The dance will run from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. in St. Mark’s Parlour Hall, 1020 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale. For reservations, call (818) 248-8604 or (213) 667-0738. Cocktail dress is encouraged.
