Lynwood : Schools Official to Stay on Job While 2 Panels Wrangle

Share

Maintenance Director Commodore Reid will remain on the job in the Lynwood Unified School District while the school board and Personnel Commission continue a running battle over his future.

The three-member school board majority is fighting to keep Reid as director of maintenance, operations and transportation. Two school board members and the Personnel Commission want to oust Reid, who was rehired three years after pleading no contest to one count of grand theft and one count of receiving stolen property from the school district.

Personnel Commission members said they have the right to overturn the board’s decision to rehire Reid. The board majority argues that it has authority to reinstate Reid without commission approval.

The matter was supposed to be settled at a Personnel Commission hearing Friday. Attorneys for Reid and the district won a postponement, however, after questioning whether the Personnel Commission has the authority to hear the case. An independent hearing officer is expected to rule on the district’s argument by mid-March.
