Father Gets 120 Days for Beating Daughter
A La Canada Flintridge man has been sentenced to 120 days in Los Angeles County Jail for beating his 17-year-old daughter with a wooden dowel last May because her grades had dropped below a straight-A average, authorities said.
William Hwang, 44, of La Canada Flintridge, pleaded guilty to one count of felony child abuse Jan. 23 after Pasadena Superior Court Judge William Masterson agreed to send him to jail for no more than 180 days.
In addition to the jail time, Masterson on Tuesday handed down a two-year suspended state prison sentence. He also ordered Hwang to serve three years’ probation and to obtain psychological counseling, authorities said.
