Proposed Code for Filmmakers

Share

Mahony’s call for new restrictive censorship of the motion picture industry does not even make a pretense at acknowledging that our nation is governed by the First Amendment, guaranteeing rights of free expression. If people don’t like a particular movie, they don’t have to see it. No one, though, should have the right to deny others the privilege of viewing the film in question.

In addition to free expression, the First Amendment also guarantees something else that apparently chagrins the Catholic Church: the separation of church and state.
