Share

A group of robbers smashed through the glass door of a Port Hueneme mini-mart shortly after it closed Thursday morning, assaulted a store employee and looted the cash register, police said.

Clerk Salvador Casas, 23, of Oxnard suffered minor injuries when five robbers kicked him and hit him over the head with a beer bottle, said Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Jerry Beck.

Casas was treated at the scene by paramedics, Beck said.

Casas had just closed the mini-mart on Pleasant Valley Road and was starting to take inventory when the suspects shattered the glass door with a crowbar and entered the store at 12:50 a.m., Beck said.

The suspects, described by Casas as 18- to 22-year-old males, threatened him with a knife, then ordered him to lie on the floor where they attacked him, Beck said.

The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register before fleeing, he said.
