Grievance Hearing for Martin Delayed

Share

A scheduled contract grievance hearing between former Cal State Northridge women’s basketball Coach Janet Martin and a university official was postponed indefinitely Thursday because Martin’s representative from the California Faculty Assn. was unable to attend.

The grievance, which contests the length of Martin’s contract with the school, was to be heard by Donald Cameron, executive assistant to the vice president for academic affairs.

But Martin sought a postponement because her faculty representative, Don DeMoro, is immobilized with a knee injury. DeMoro is on sick leave until March 2.

Martin, who says she was forced to resign Dec. 12 by athletic department officials, is seeking four months’ salary through the end of the 1991-92 school year in June.

Her contract with Northridge expires at the close of the basketball season later this month. Martin, interpreting the collective bargaining agreement between the faculty union and the California State University system, contends that the contract should have been for the entire school year.

Martin’s salary at Northridge pays $4,072 per month, according to Debby De Angelis, Northridge athletic business manager.
