Dylan Disappointment

Share

On Jan. 30 at 2 p.m., I phoned the Palace to ask if it was just a rumor or really true that Bob Dylan would be performing that evening. I spoke with a woman who claimed to be “the daughter of the man who put the show together.” She told me that “yes, Bob Dylan would be there and he would perform.” She then tried to sell me reserved seats for $50. I opted for the $30 tickets and went to the show and, of course, Dylan did not appear.

I made my call five hours before the start of the show. Surely they knew by then that Dylan would not perform. I feel I was blatantly lied to and used by the producers. Dylan’s name was used as a ploy to sell tickets and nothing more. It was evident that everyone in the audience was expecting Dylan.

Later, in The Times review of the concert (“Lending a Helping Hand to a Friend,” Feb. 1), Dylan’s absence was written off as a “miscommunication.” Do producers have to stoop so low? I was ripped off.
