Telephone Companies Seek Amendment to Cable Bill: The United States Telephone Assn. said it will seek to attach amendments to an upcoming cable TV re-regulation bill in the House that would allow local phone companies to own cable TV systems. Previously the telephone industry has supported separate bills promoting their entry into cable. The White House backs entry of so-called telcos into cable. Therefore telcos’ support of cable re-regulation could dampen chances of a threatened presidential veto of cable re-regulation legislation.
