Free guided tours are being offered of the Tournament House, stately home of the Wrigley family for 45 years and now headquarters of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn.

The 1914 mansion on South Orange Grove Boulevard features a Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Room with game memorabilia and a garden featuring the “Tournament of Roses” rose, developed for the 100th anniversary of the parade in 1989. Guests also can have a close-up look at silver Rose Parade saddles, tiaras from past Rose queens and a Waterford crystal bowl commissioned for the parade’s centennial.

The dining room contains original furniture used by the Wrigley family, which donated the home to the tournament association in 1959. Hanging throughout

the ornate house are photographs showing the house when it was inhabited by the Wrigleys, who made a fortune in chewing gum and used the mansion as their winter home. The house was actually modest in size compared to other homes--since torn down and replaced by condominiums--lining Pasadena’s “Millionaires Row.”

Tours are available Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. until Aug. 26, when the association begins to gear up for the Rose Bowl season. Reservations are required two weeks in advance for groups of 25 people or more and may be scheduled on other days.
