Fourth Republican Enters Assembly Race

George Young, a Marina del Rey public affairs consultant, announced last week that he is entering the race for an open Assembly seat representing the beach cities, Torrance and part of the Westside.
Young, 55, is one of four Republicans running in the GOP-leaning district. The others are Redondo Beach City Councilwoman Barbara Doerr, 48; Redondo Beach Mayor Brad Parton, 31, and Torrance City Councilman Dan Walker, 51.
So far only one Democrat has announced for the 53rd District seat--former automobile sales executive Donald Landolfi, 60, of Torrance. But another Democrat, 36-year-old attorney Debra Bowen of Marina del Rey, was expected to enter the race last week.
In a prepared statement Thursday, Young said his clients have included the Republican National Committee, the National Rifle Assn., Hughes Aircraft and Chevron’s El Segundo oil refinery. As assemblyman, he said, his chief concerns would include preserving jobs, improving transportation and education, and cleaning up Santa Monica Bay.
