IRVINE : Water District to Free Saturday Tours

Share

The Irvine Ranch Water District is preparing to offer residents free tours of its facilities, which have proved popular in the past, to be offered on five Saturdays this year starting in April.

The tours will include a visit to the district’s water-quality laboratory, the Michelson Water Reclamation Plant, parts of the San Joaquin Marsh and a trip into the Lomas de Santiago Foothills to see the district’s Rattlesnake Reservoir, which stores the water treated at the Michelson plant. Public access to the 46-acre reservoir is normally restricted.

The tours will conclude with lunch at the former Duck Club building on the district’s property near the marsh. The tours are intended to teach residents more about where Irvine’s water comes from and how it is supplied to homes and reclaimed for use on lawns and landscaping.

The tours will be offered beginning at 8 a.m. one Saturday a month from April to October. Advance reservations are required and the district is already anticipating 1993 dates because of past popularity of the tours. For information, call the water district’s community relations office at (714) 476-7504.
