Right-hander Tim Belcher and the Cincinnati Reds agreed Monday to a one-year contract worth $2.1 million, more than double his $900,000 salary last year with the Dodgers.
Belcher, 30, had been scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing today in Rosemont, Ill. He had asked for $2.35 million, and the Reds had offered $1.75 million.
Belcher was 10-9 with the Dodgers last year with a 2.62 earned-run average in 33 starts. The Reds obtained Belcher and pitcher John Wetteland from the Dodgers in a trade for outfielder Eric Davis and pitcher Kip Gross. Wetteland later was traded to Montreal.
