Most athletes and coaches haven’t gotten used to the name “Unified Team,” still referring to the athletes from the Commonwealth of Independent States as Soviets or Russians. Canadian assistant coach Terry Crisp still calls them Soviets, although he was corrected several times Sunday.

“Soviets, Russians, use any name you want,” he said, “they’re still a hockey power.”

The U.S. hockey team is receiving dozens of faxes and messages daily at its La Tania residence, team officials said. Among them are letters addressed to actor Richard Dean Anderson, who was the team’s honorary celebrity captain in pre-Olympic publicity and fund-raising events. Anderson, who starred in the TV series “MacGyver,” is not with the team.
