Stay Where You Are, Dude: Producers of “The Simpsons” have lost a bid to get their popular series moved from the animation to the comedy category in Emmy Award competition. Leo Chaloukian, president of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said the board gave the request “a full and lively debate” but felt the status quo was “in the best interest” of the prime-time Emmy Awards structure. Some board members believed the move would be “too precedent-setting” in view of other recent prime-time animated series. “The Simpsons” has won two successive Emmys as outstanding animation program.
