Video Rental Chart : ‘Hot Shots,’ ‘Mobsters’ Gun for the Top

Share

A big turnover in the Billboard magazine rental Top Five is under way. Though “Thelma & Louise” maintains its No. 1 status, it will be facing strong challenges from some chart newcomers, particularly the high-flying spoof “Hot Shots” (No. 3) and “Mobsters” (No. 5). Also, the surfing movie “Point Break,” starring Patrick Swayze, might just wash “Thelma & Louise” out of the top spot. “Regarding Henry,” the drama starring Harrison Ford, debuted at No. 8 and should make it into the Top Five. The latest martial arts fight fest starring Jean-Claude van Damme--”Double Impact”--entered at No. 26 and could crash into the Top 10 next week.

* “The Rocketeer,” starring Bill Campbell as an old-fashioned hero out of the Saturday-matinee serials, wasn’t the blockbuster Disney expected, largely because, some analysts speculated, there weren’t enough action sequences and the leading character was too bland. But this adventure, which grossed a respectable $47 million, should be a huge rental hit. “Rocketeer” rocketed to No. 6 in its first week on the chart.
