London Calling: Actress Kim Basinger was awarded undisclosed libel damages and a public apology Thursday by the High Court in London over a British newspaper article alleging she was a cocaine addict. The Express Newspapers, which has published an apology, said the libel resulted from a misreading of an earlier article. Basinger intends to put part of the damages payment toward a charity and the rest to meet her legal costs. . . . Meanwhile in London, a British betting office Thursday made Nick Nolte and Jodie Foster favorites to win best actor and actress awards at this year's Oscar ceremony. "The Silence of the Lambs" was tabbed the best-film favorite.
