Ban on 3-Year-Old Vehicles Set: The Singapore government will ban the import of vehicles that are more than 3 years old, beginning Sept. 1. The government’s Registry of Vehicles said the ban is intended to counter a rise in the use of older automobiles. According to the registry, 95% of cars and 64% of other vehicles registered in 1991 were more than 3 years old. “This trend of importing old vehicles in place of new vehicles runs counter to the policy of encouraging a younger and more roadworthy vehicle population so that our roads remain free-flowing,” the registry said in a statement.
