Union Bid Fails at The Times: Los Angeles Times mailroom employees have rejected a bid for union representation by Teamsters Local 986. In balloting supervised by the National Labor Relations Board, 77% of the mailroom workers opposed representation by the union. Local 986 filed a petition with the federal board last November, setting up the vote on its bid to represent The Times’ 337 mailroom employees. About 85% of those eligible to vote cast ballots, rejecting the union 218 to 65.
