Videotapes from five pornographic bookstores were seized Monday by sheriff’s deputies, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Authorities were searching for illegally imported tapes at the bookstores, in Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, San Diego and National City, Sheriff’s Deputy Larry van Dusen said. Authorities were also trying to determine whether some of the videos’ contents violated California obscenity laws.

The bookstores targeted in Monday’s seizure included Lemon Grove Video in Lemon Grove, Fantasyland in Spring Valley, Chuck’s Books in National City and two Mercury Books stores in San Diego, Van Dusen said.

The five bookstores are owned and operated by Donald Wiener, his son, Steven Wiener, and Robert Smith, whose homes were also searched.

No arrests were made Monday and the Sheriff’s Department is reviewing the evidence, which may result in charges being filed by the district attorney’s office, Van Dusen said.

Authorities began investigating the bookstores last August.
