The owner of a Sherman Oaks jewelry store was shot Monday in a gunfight with robbers, Los Angeles police said.

Jeff Rosen, owner of JR’s Diamonds and Jewelry Store in the 14500 block of Ventura Boulevard, was shot once in the chest, Detective Mel Arnold said. He was not seriously injured.

Rosen and his sister were in the store Monday morning when two gunmen entered, Arnold said. After realizing the woman had activated a silent alarm, “the suspects attempted to leave . . . and were unable to get the door open,” Arnold said.

“At that point one of the suspects turned and fired at Mr. Rosen.”

Rosen fired one shot at the gunmen and managed to unlock the door using an electronic buzzer, Arnold said.

At least one of the gunmen fled in a car that had been stolen from Marina del Rey earlier this month, Arnold said. The car was found abandoned three blocks away.

Rosen was treated at Northridge Hospital Medical Center and released, Arnold said.

No arrests had been made.
