Funds Sought for Rail Station Landscaping
The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to seek $250,000 in state grant funds to help landscape and beautify three commuter rail stations in the San Fernando Valley.
The funds are being sought as the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and the city seek to prepare rail stations in Chatsworth, Sylmar and Van Nuys for an October, 1992, start-up of Metrolink, the regional commuter rail system the stations would serve.
Two-thirds of the funding sought would be used to landscape the Chatsworth commuter rail station, said Francine Oschin, transportation deputy to Councilman Hal Bernson. Bernson, who represents Chatsworth, introduced the motion to seek the grant money.
The state California Resources Agency makes the grants available for specified beautification projects, including commuter rail stations.
