COUNTYWIDE : Perez Drops Out of Assembly Race

Moorpark City Councilman Bernardo Perez announced Wednesday that he has withdrawn as a Democratic candidate in the 37th Assembly District.
Perez said he decided to withdraw so he can remain involved in updating Moorpark’s master plan and to avoid placing a financial burden on his family.
His departure leaves Roz McGrath, a Camarillo schoolteacher and farm manager, as the lone Democrat running in the district, which encompasses the cities of Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme.
Perez said he has found common ground with McGrath in two meetings and plans to meet with her again to discuss helping her fill the seat being vacated by Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks).
In the November election, McGrath will face the victor of a wide-open Republican primary contest that has eight candidates, including former Ventura County Supervisor Madge L. Schaefer and Oxnard Mayor Nao Takasugi.
Perez, 42, who works for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, said he will seek reelection to the City Council in November.
