The Band Comes Marching In

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, legendary keepers of the New Orleans jazz flame, will perform their happy blend of improvised melodies and upbeat rhythms tonight at the Oxnard Civic Auditorium.

Gaining universal appeal during worldwide tours, the New Orleans-style jazz septet features a front line of trumpet, clarinet and trombone.

Banjo, piano, string bass and percussion complete the group’s sound.

And while the popularity of this form of jazz peaked decades ago, the music continues to lure younger generations of listeners.

The ensemble--with its mix of young and old players--is one of three touring groups that alternate at the famed New Orleans’ Preservation Hall nightclub.

Concert-goers can expect to enjoy music from as early as 1910 through the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s, including such classics as “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “Bourbon Street Parade” and “Tiger Rag.”

The concert will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $15.50 and available at the box office or through TicketMaster outlets.

Senior citizen discounts are available.
