The New York Islanders signed defenseman Scott Lachance, a standout on the United States Olympic team that finished fourth at Albertville, France.

Lachance, 19, the Islanders’ first pick and the fourth player selected overall in the 1991 entry draft, signed a four-year contract worth approximately $1.2 million, including a $200,000 signing bonus.

In other transactions involving Olympians, defenseman Igor Kravchuk of the Unified Team signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks; French player Philippe Bozon signed a multiyear contract for undisclosed terms with the St. Louis Blues, and Winnipeg Jet defenseman Moe Mantha, who played for the U.S. team, was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for future considerations.
