Sonora will field the youngest team and have the youngest coach in the league. Tellers, 26, will start as many as five sophomores with only four seniors on the squad. The talented sophomores are up from a freshman team that won the Freeway League with a 12-3 record. Tellers also has seven juniors. “We’re very young, and we’ll likely make some mistakes,” Tellers said. “We have average pitching and so-so hitting, but I think we’ll improve as the season progresses.” Foust, who plans to walk on at the University of Arizona next year, is the best player on the team; he was a second-team, all-league selection after batting .406 with five home runs. Lythgoe, a starter on the Raiders’ basketball team, will pitch and play first base. He hit two homers as a sophomore last year. Tellers, in his second year as coach, is a former star at Western High and Cypress College. Sonora opens in the Glendora tournament March 6-14 and then plays a doubleheader against Anaheim at Glover Stadium on March 17 before beginning league play.
