Squaring Off Over ‘Good Old American Con Game’

Regarding “Japan Bashing”: I bought a Ford Taurus SHO, thinking what a fine American car, only to find out later that the entire engine and drive train were manufactured by Yamaha in Japan. I probably would have bought it anyway, but I would have liked to have known that fact.

I think that disclosure of country(ies) of origin by percentage of content as measured by the manufacturer’s component costs would be a good standard for informing the consumer. It would be published with all advertising and on price stickers.

Many other products might benefit from this type of disclosure while giving our consumers a real chance to exercise their preferences realistically.
