Raymie Redington was first to reach the Skwentna checkpoint in Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, earning a $25,000 pickup diesel pickup. Redington, son of Joe Redington Sr., “Father of the Iditarod,” declared he would take his one-time 24-hour rest stop as bitter winds and sub-zero temperatures slowed mushers.
Last year’s second-place Iditarod finisher, Martin Buser, was first out of Skwentna.
