Loan Guarantees for Israel

Shame on President Bush and Secretary Baker for their linkage of settlements and loan guarantees. They have played into the hands of big oil and Arab monies. Hail to Prime Minister Shamir for not caving under U.S. pressure!
Where is the pressure on Arab states to recognize Israel, to release Jews being held in Syria, Yemen and other Arab countries? Where is the pressure to drop the economic boycott of Israel?
If the linkage is to influence Israeli elections coming up in June, it will backfire. Better for Israel not to accept any funds than to be any further under the control of the U.S. government.
