College Basketball
The man heading the University of Rhode Island’s probe into an alleged campus gambling ring promised quick action to determine if basketball players were involved.
“The committee will start interviewing today--players, coaches, staff,” John H. McCray Jr., vice president for student development, said.
The university wanted a quick determination of any player involvement in case disciplinary action was necessary before Saturday’s start of the Atlantic 10 tournament, he said.
Bryant College said the number of basketball players suspended from its team, pending investigation of their alleged gambling, had risen to five. A sixth player already has been dismissed.
