The United Nations’ annual human rights marathon came to an end, criticizing some countries accused of serious violations but leaving others untouched. In six weeks, the U.N. Human Rights Commission heard more than 650 speeches and passed 82 resolutions. Among others, Iraq was accused of “massive and grave violations,” Cuba and Myanmar of suppressing political opposition, and Iran of excessive use of the death penalty. An unprecedented motion condemning China fell by the wayside.
